The life and career of a freelancer is something that is not entirely for everyone. You need to be able to cope and adapt at the drop of a hat and you need to be aware of the uncertainty that comes with the job. This is the part many people have a hard time coping with. The uncertainty – the uncertainty of not knowing whether or not you will have a job next month, the uncertainty of your status or position in the company you are working for and the uncertainty of who you could be working for next. In many ways, it is a stressful life but something people absolutely love it.

The uncertainty works both ways – companies hiring your services don’t always know if they can rely on you and your nebulous position, and you don’t always know where the next job will come from. “Will I be writing for Wal-Mart tomorrow or will I be writing for http://www.newyorkenergyrates.com/ or maybe even Amazon? What will I need to know in order to hold down this position? I hope it pays well.” These are all inexorable anxieties that some people can live with and some people can’t and they are all part of the uncertain life of a freelance writer, programmer, whatever.

There are benefits to working freelance, though. As a freelancer, some businesses call you an independent contractor, you are afforded some, well, independence on certain decisions and moves and really, at the end of the day, you are your own boss and, for some, that fact alone is valuable enough.

Becoming a freelancer can be a fun, and can also be a very ewarding career. You’re going to be your own boss, but it’s going to take a lot of discipline. If you’re thinking about becoming a freelancer, a schedule is going to be mandatory in order to ensure that work gets done. Without a schedule, things could fall behind, resulting in a loss of clients.

Set your alarm clock: Always make sure that you wake up the same time each morning. Treat this like a job. So, you can choose to wake up at 6, 7, 8AM, etc. Be sure to follow this routine on a daily basis.

Write down your goals: Each and every day, you’re going to want to write down your goals. What do you want to accomplish today? Just because you’re working from home, it doesn’t mean that you can slack off. Most successful freelancers are going to put in eight to ten hour workdays.

Work the day away: Take your normal 30 minute breaks for lunch, snacks and the bathroom. If you have a child, you may want to consider getting a babysitter or daycare, since they can interfere with your work. While you’re going to have to pay, it’s going to be a good investment.

A schedule for a freelancer is going to be no different than the corporate setting. Set your alarm clock, set your goal for at least eight hours a day, and be sure to adjust a schedule that fits your lifestyle!

Many people dream of a freelance career, but too often those people think only of the most obvious freelance options, like writing, photography or consulting. The truth is there are actually many different types of freelance careers that you may not have thought of.

For example, consider becoming a reader. This job consists of reading books, magazines, or newspapers to people who are no longer able to do so. In some cases, you’d visit a nursing home or private residence. In other cases, you’d do it over the phone. This job is an interesting one, but some people may have trouble talking for long periods of time.

Organizing is another freelance career that many people don’t think of. If you’re someone who’s always organized, then you can visit someone’s home or office and help them get on track. This might include providing them with storage solutions, it might involve getting a calendar set up for them, or it might involve filing their important papers. People are willing to pay big money to have someone organize their life.

The bottom line is that anything you’re good at, you can probably find someone to pay you to do it. As you consider a freelance career, get creative and you’ll likely find that there are more options than you realize. The hits keep comin’: Special Report: Careers for Freelancer’s

Working as a freelancer can be one of the most rewarding jobs in the market today. You have the ability to use your talents to earn an income, work from home, and you never have to worry about being laid-off. However, a freelance professional must build a list of clients to remain successful.

Once you have entered the freelance industry it is important to begin making, and keeping contacts. This includes people or companies that you have performed services for, as well as potential clients. The best way to begin this endeavor is to become very active on the Internet.

Visit blogs that are based around your profession and become active on the site. You will make contacts with people and companies who are in direct need of your services. This also applies to social networking groups that are centered on your profession or career.

You will also need to establish a personal website and blog. This will encourage people to use your services or learn from your experience. As you interact with people, you will generate clients.

Follow up with anyone that you encounter on or off line. Keeping people aware that you are available for freelance work is crucial to success. Once you meet someone, a quick hello through an email can generate income opportunities.

Five most important characteristics for a successful freelancer involves being able to work on your own most of the day, sitting in front of the computer or on the phone for long periods of time, and working more than eight hour days. A freelancer has to budget their time and handle being in charge of their income.

1. Working on Your Own

As a freelancer, you will not be working with others. You will be working alone at home working in front of the computer or on the telephone trying to earn an income.

2. Sit in One Place

You have to be able to sit in front of the computer or telephone most of the day. If you cannot sit for long, freelancing is not for you.

3. Working More Hours

In order to be able to meet your needs, you may have to work longer hours. You may even find yourself working on weekends in order to meet your income needs.

4. Budget Your Time

Since you will be working on your own, you have to figure out how many hours each day you plan on working. You can get caught up as a freelancer and end up working from morning until night. Get a notebook and write down how many and which hours you plan on working and stick to it. By not sticking to a schedule, you may neglect your family obligations.

5. Be In Charge Of Your Income

Freelancers do not earn a salary or wage. You are in charge of how much money you want to make. If you cannot handle earning a lower income, freelancing may not be for you.Keep looking, there’s more: Working From Home as a Freelancer
